Our fluffy banana stovetop oatmeal is a morning favorite! It’s made with rolled oats, mashed banana, chia seeds, and a little bit of maple syrup.

If you ask me, this amazing oatmeal tastes just like banana bread, but in oatmeal form! I can’t wait for you to make this and love it.

This recipe reminds me of college when I first fell in love with oatmeal for breakfast. Banana stovetop oatmeal was my go-to because I knew it would keep me full all morning and I could get so much volume out of one serving (thank you chia seeds and extra almond milk).

We’re sharing out secret to extra fluffy stovetop oatmeal : Double whip the oatmeal with extra almond milk. Once you think it’s done cooking, add a little bit more milk and then keep on stirring! It becomes super voluminous and delicious. It’s been our best oatmeal pro tip for nearly a decade, and now it can be yours too 😋

Why Stovetop Oats?

Why make stovetop oats when you can just make them in the microwave? I know it takes longer to make, but once you make oats on the stove, you’re never going to use the microwave again! Stovetop oats have THE best texture. They’re so fluffy and satisfying and they pretty much melt in your mouth with every bite.

  • ▢ 2.5 cups plain, unsweetened almond milk , divided into 2 cups and 1/2 cup
  • ▢ 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • ▢ 1 medium banana , mashed

  • ▢ 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ▢ 1 tablespoon chia seeds

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients (minus 1/2 cup almond milk) into a medium sauce pan. Turn to high medium/high heat, mix, and bring to a boil.
  • Turn heat down to low/medium and simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring consistently until oatmeal thickens.
  • Add 1/2 cup more almond milk and mix again. Let simmer for 1-2 more minutes. We call this double whipped.
  • Top with walnuts, bananas, and chunks of banana bread.
